One of the most special graduation gifts was a journal from my mom. It's my favorite journal I've had in my life thus far... and some of the journals I've had have been quite something either with sequenze all over them or being made out of true Italian leather. This journal was my favorite because on the front cover it says "A GREAT QUOTE A DAY JOURNAL," and within it are 365 pages of delicious quotes where you can write above them.

If you know me well you know I LOVE

QUOTES. It's honestly probably one of the weirdest obsessions I have. There are so many reasons I always search for them, mianly because they're thought provoking. They inspire me and can be motivational. Others I search for when I'm emotional and they calm me down.

So here's some pretty great quotes I've gathered in my notes section of my phone for a while. Hope you enjoy :)

1. "Once in a while it really hits people that they don't have to experience the world in the way they have been told to." Alan Keightley

I wish I would've seen this quote my junior year of High School. Growing up I always felt like I had to dream of being a nurse, doctor, ceo of a business, etc. I never really knew of all the possibilities and professions. So, I crammed myself with too many AP, honors, and IB classes thinking I'd take up nursing... killing my time during the week. Now that I'm in Architecture and Interior Design at the Univeristy of Cincinnati, I think back and wonder why I felt the need to over stretch myself in so many subjects I wasn't passionate about. I should've focused on subjects I loved, not ones I thought I should love. I should have taken more art classes. AP Euro? For sure should've. Luckily, I ended up in college where I was sooo meant to be. But for the future, I've learned the lesson.

2. "My goal is to be filthy rich... Rich in adventure, in health, in knowledge, in laughter, in family, and in love" Unknown

3. "Sometimes loosing balance for love is part of living a balanced life" Eat Pray Love

This quote I love and hate at the same time. It intimidates me, but also sort of comforts me. It's all because love scares me, like nothing else. Vulnerability scares me. Having someone know me, all of me, care for me deeply, I desire it but I also loathe it. Loosing myself to a romantic guy, that idea makes me want to barf and run away, and draws me in at the same time. I'm still practicing the meaning of this quote. I'm still learning how to let love in, how to experience it, how to let go. I've never fallen in love because I don't let myself. But, this quote reminds me that perhaps love is best to take a leap of faith in. Perhaps it's best not to control the uncontrollable.

4. "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is what you really are while your reputation is merely what others think you are" Dale Carnegie

People will ALWAYS gossip, unfortunatly. But, only YOU know who you truly are. YOU are the only one who has spent life with yourself all day everyday. Don't care so much of what others say or think of you. But, do know the play between fact and self denial.

5. "This is a good sign, having a broken heart. It means we have tried for something" Eat Pray Love

6. "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win" Gandhi

Do what you want. Think what you want. Wear what you want. Be who you truly are. Being different is good. Jealousy is a real thing, and jealous girls can be very mean.

7. "Sometimes it's more noble to deliver a small lie than a painful truth" Night At The Museum

8. "We all fear death and question our place in the universe. The artist's job is not to succumb to despair, but to find an antidote for the emptiness of existence" Midnight in Paris

9. "Yesterday is gone, tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin" Mother Teresa

Motivation! Inspiration! One week turns into two, two turns into a month, months turn into years. Start the project today!

10. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit" Aristotle

11. "You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing you think you cannot do" Eleanor Roosevelt

Always set goals. The end of eigth grade, I had never ran more than two miles. By the end of that year, I had completed two half marathons. Chasing dreams and setting goals can be very moving. Surprise yourself.

12. "Decisions are easy when values are clear" Unknown

This is so crucial!! Know where you stand. In the notes section of my phone I have a list of all my values. I go over them every so often as a way to remind myself who I want to be and who I am. Sometimes my values even change a bit, which is fine. We grow and so do our values. It's smart to know your opinion on things, so that you never do something you would terribly regret later.

13. "To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart" Eleanor Roosevelt

Compassion. It's good to keep in mind that you never really know what others are truly feeling or going through. Be nice to people. Not just because karma's a thing but because it's a good legacy to leave behind. People won't forget how you make them feel. Even just a smile and a "hey" can make someone's day.

14. "Never again use another person's body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfulfilled yearnings" Eat Pray Love

Unconsiously, I think most people do this at some time in their life. Use people... when hurt or upset... for something we need without realizing it. Stay mindful of your emotional health just as you would with your physical health. Emotional cheating is a thing, realize it.

15. "Family is the most important thing in the world" Princess Diana

My parents are my best friends. I love them to death. I love my family to death. You'll never regret any amount of time spent with your family. Family is everything. Roots. Support. Love. Be open with them, keep your relationship close.

16. "The great courageous act that we must all do, is to have the courage to step out of our history and past so that we can live our dreams" Oprah Winfrey

Forgive past mistakes people make. Without forgiveness, there is no future because you just dwell on the matter.

17. "People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do" Issac Asimov

Don't be that person. Take constructive critism. Listen and consider other's advice. You don't know everything when you're 10, nor 20, nor 60, nor when you're 100. You learn something new everyday, lessons, facts, etc... don't be arrogant.

18. "Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value" Albert Einstein

Being a whole person, strong head on my shoulders type girl, has always been so much more important to me than making money or getting ahead. Don't be blinded by the hunt for success and forget what's important in life (like family). (Have you seen the movie The Family Man... yeah)

19. "True forgiveness is when you can say, thank you for that experience" Oprah Winfrey

Personally I think this is such a mature outlook on when things have been hard in the past, and how to deal with it. Forgive and forget, almost. Everyone has hard times, and I like to believe that's why people make mistakes or do "bad" things. I like to believe that everyone is a good person, just act out when hurt. So, if someone hurts you, forgive. Life is too short to hold grudges.

20. "We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives" John F. Kennedy

Something that had always been stressed in my family is the power of a thank you note. People love being thanked because unfortunately, being thanked genuinely rarely happens nowadays. There's no excuse to not say thank you to someone when you appreciate something, make them feel cared for.

XOXO,

~M~
